Apple Pie Pull-Apart Loaf

My husband loves apple turnovers for breakfast.  If  I don't provide him something sweet, he will go to a gas station and pick up something filled will chemicals and preservatives.  So I saw this recipe in a magazine while shopping for food and gave it a try today.  With a bread machine, it came together quite easily.  My hubby will be pleased for days and days!

3/4 cup milk
1 egg slightly beaten
1/4 cup butter, melted
2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
3 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. active dry yeast

The best way to combine the above ingredients is in the order listed into a bread machine pan.  Use the dough setting to mix dough, then allow to sit in bread machine pan until doubled in size.  This is quick and easy, but if you don't have a bread machine, you can follow the directions below.

1.  In a small saucepan heat milk just until warm (105°F to 115°F). In a large bowl combine warm milk and yeast; stir until yeast is dissolved.  Let stand 5 minutes.
2.  Add next four ingredients (through salt) to yeast mixture.  Beat with a mixer on medium until combined.  Add half of the flour; beat on low 30 seconds, scraping bowl as needed.  Beat 3 minutes on medium.  Stir in the remaining flour.  Shape dough into a ball (dough will not be smooth).  Place the dough in a greased bowl; turn once to grease surface.  Cover and let rise in a warm place until nearly double in size (45 to 60 minutes).

Now, grease a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.  Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface.  Roll dough into a 20 x 12-inch rectangle.  Brush with the 1/4 cup melted butter.  Sprinkle with 1 1/2 cup apples, peeled and finely chopped, 1/2 cup coconut sugar, and 2 tsp. cinnamon and 1/4 tsp nutmeg.  Cut rectangle in half lengthwise to make two 20 x 6-inch pieces; cut each piece crosswise into five 6 x4-inch strips.  Carefully make two stacks of five strips each.  Cut each stack into 4 x 2 inch pieces.  Loosely stagger pieces in pan, cut sides up.  Cover; let rise in a warm place until nearly double in size. (40-45 minutes).

Preheat oven to 350°F.  Bake about 45 minutes or until golden brown.  Cool 10 minutes.  Remove loaf to serving plate.  Cool 20 minutes more.  Drizzle with Creamy Icing

Creamy Icing
In a bowl beat together 2 ounces softened cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon, vanilla with a mixer on medium until smooth.  Beat in enough milk (2 to 3 tablespoons) to make a glaze a drizzling consistency.
